Doug was born April 22, 1982 in Medina, Ohio. He attended Cloverleaf High School, where he became captain of the wrestling team and proved to be a dominant force for the program.
Upon graduation in 2001, Doug joined the United States Marine Corps where he excelled in close combat training, completed two tours in Iraq as a fire team leader where he was wounded in combat to receive a purple heart, and Navy Commendation medal with a V for Valor.
After his honorable discharge in 2006, Doug moved to Lancaster, PA where he briefly trained in boxing with two time world champ Leah Mellinger. Doug later returned to Ohio where he met Jose Delgado and trained at JAD Self Defense in Cleveland, Ohio from 2007 - 2009.
By mid 2009 Doug found a home at Evolve MMA with coaches Ryan Madigan (standup), John Cook (strength training) and Shaun Hinssen (conditioning).
